My son turned a year one the July 12 and he has fairly long hair.....long for a year...and I want tocut it, but my b/f doesnt want to.....and is he too young?

I cut my son's hair a little before after he turned one, it was getting too long. He looked super cute, and it hurt me to do it, because all those little curls where going to be gone, but he needed it.

If my husband said no, I personally would still do it, because I know how he would react. Trust your gut, you know your boyfriend better, make sure he won't be too mad. Besides, hair ALWAYS grows back. Since he's a boy, I think it would be best, once I went to the doctors office, and this girl walked in with this little kid. The kid was super cute, with these big eyes, and beautiful eye lashes, and curly read hair. I asked "how old is SHE?" and the girl said "HE's one" I felt so bad, I didn't know where to stick my head, let alone my big mouth. She told me that it always happens, that she's use to it. But I don't think it's fair, if it's a boy, he should look like a boy with short hair, if it's a girl, she should look like a girl with bows, or long hair.

That's just my opinion. Make sure you make the right choice, try talking to your boyfriend again, maybe you can get him to change his mind.

I think 1 is old enough to get your first hair cut and maybe you should sit down and explain to him why you want to cut his hair and explain that it will grow back. Remember to save the hair from his first hair cut for the baby book!

I guess it depends on how bad the hair is starting to look. My bestfriend son has curly hair and it was long and out of control, so she got it cut hahaha. My other friends son is just a day older then him, but doesn't need one. It all depends on how their hair grows in. He's not too young.

He isn't too young, however this is an awfully silly thing to get into a fight over. Unless it is really a pain to care for why not try to work things out with your boyfriend and figure out why he doesn't want to cut your son's hair.

I think a lot of people cut thier child's hair sometime during the 1st or 2nd year. It can be really scary for a kid, though, maybe because they think it will hurt.

I'm for letting it grow until people start to think he's a girl. It might cause tension and distrust if you do this without your partner's consensus.

I don't think so. My son has very curly hair. When he turned a year it was turning into a baby afro. I wanted to cut it. Then my husband got deployed. He wanted to be there for his first hair cut so I waited until he got home. He had all his curls cut off at sixteen months but I really wish we would've done it sooner.

Try to convince your boyfriend to get it done sooner if it really looks bad. People always commented on how great and cute my son's curls were but I thought it was time to get rid of them. LOL! Do what's best for all of you...

PS. He's now 18 months and his hair is already close to where it was two months ago. If I were you I'd learn how to do boy haircuts. LOL!

I trimmed my baby's hair when they were 2 months old. Actually the entire family (husband's side) was against it but I went ahead and did it. Nothing happened to my kids. See they had really bad cradle cap and I couldn't take it off with anything so I needed to get rid of the hair to wash their little scalp better.

He's not going to cooperate and the whole thing will be a pain. Wait until he's about 18 months old. If his father wants to wait even longer that's OK too. Different cultures and families have different beliefs and frankly, it's no big deal in the long run.

My son was about 10months old when he had his first "trim". It wasn't long, but it was already a bit too long, and I prefer short hair on boys.
